WELCOME TO OUR NEW YMCA CAMP CULLEN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, BOBBY THOMAS

Bobby Thomas feels privileged to have been selected as YMCA Camp Cullen’s new executive director. He steps into his new role with great enthusiasm and dedication, eager to collaborate with his exceptional team and community partners in advancing the Y’s mission of serving youth and families at our premier overnight camp, located north of Houston in Trinity, Texas.

Bobby brings abundant experience in overnight camp management, with a profound commitment to empowering young individuals and fostering their growth. He’s worked closely with the YMCA of the USA to create international camping opportunities and partnerships, served as the chair of the Mid-America Camping Conference and currently serves as the sole US camping delegate on the 2024 International YMCA Camp Capacity Building conference committee. He is confident that his team can honor Camp Cullen’s nearly 50-year legacy by pursuing sustainability and strategic growth through team innovation, a commitment to success and compassionate leadership.

Bobby’s camp career was built on a foundation of spending every summer from age 7 to 17 in overnight camp as a camper, Leader In Training and Counselor In Training. During his college undergrad years, summers were spent as a counselor and weekends were dedicated to being an outdoor education instructor. “I couldn’t get enough of camp and some things never change. Guys I spent those summers with would be groomsmen in my wedding to my wonderful wife Sarah, whom of course I met at camp. I have been fortunate to have led overnight camps in several YMCA associations and having been a part of the YMCA of Greater Houston team in the past, this won’t be my first rodeo with the passionate YMCA leaders in Southeast Texas,” says Thomas.

As Bobby embarks on this new journey, he is committed to fostering an environment of collaboration, inclusivity and excellence. “It will be personally important that we work together as a team to accomplish goals of transformative impact, growth and innovation. I do not doubt that YMCA Camp Cullen will be a trendsetter in overnight camping as long as we are committed to dreaming big, embracing creativity and staying curious.”
