QUICK FACTS ABOUT YOUR MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIP CARD

When joining the Y, you will receive a membership card and learn about an option to utilize the YMCA of Greater Houston app on your cellular device for check-in. Please scan your card each time you visit the Y. Be prepared to present your photo ID if you forget to bring your card or when requesting a replacement card. Cards are non-transferable.

MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNT SERVICES

While we always love to see and chat with our members at our Welcome Centers, for your convenience, many changes to your account can be requested through our Account Services page.

Members can request a change to their membership including:

  • Adding another family member to an account
  • Removing a family member from an account
  • Changing a membership draft date
  • Changing a membership type
  • Transferring a membership to a different location

Members may change the billing method on their account and register for programs by visiting My Account. Once logged into your account you can also opt in to text alerts, ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so that you may receive email updates and more. You may also view your member agreement which outlines many important items about your membership.

NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP

With Nationwide Membership, members can visit any participating Y in the United States and Puerto Rico through membership at their home Y, at no additional cost. Stay healthy where you live, work and travel! Make sure to bring a government-issued photo ID and your YMCA membership card when visiting another Y.

OUR POLICIES

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ALL

We are a charitable nonprofit community organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Please help us create a safe, comfortable and inclusive environment at all times by following our Code of Conduct.

  • Trainers and instructors must be employed by the YMCA to conduct trainings or lessons on site.
  • Please help us uphold the YMCA core values of respect, honesty, responsibility, caring and faith.
  • Members under 12 must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
  • Safety first. Please follow the rules posted within each of our facilities and their respective program areas.
  • Help us maintain a family friendly environment for all people. Profanity or unwelcome comments, conduct and actions will not be tolerated.
  • Drinks in spill-proof non-breakable containers are welcome in Y program areas.
  • We take pride in our family friendly environment. Please keep attire appropriate and modest.

Be courteous to your fellow Y members by refraining from conversation on your cell phone while in program areas.

HOLD / CANCELLATION / DRAFT INFORMATION

A membership can be put on hold for up to 3 months in a calendar year. A request to hold can be made at our Welcome Center and must be completed 10 days prior to your next scheduled draft.

While we would hate to see you go, you can cancel your membership at any time. We offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you decide to cancel your membership. A request to cancel can be made at our Welcome Center and must be completed 10 days prior to your next scheduled draft.

To do this, complete a Membership Change Form available at the Welcome Center. This must be done 10 days prior to your next scheduled draft.

A $30 service charge will be applied on any returned transaction. If you notice a discrepancy on your statement, please notify us promptly.

Refunds are not issued for discrepancies more than 90 days.

TOBACCO, AND ALCOHOL FREE

The YMCA of Greater Houston requires an alcohol and tobacco-free environment. No alcohol consumption, smoking, dipping or other usage of tobacco is allowed in our building, at our pools, in our parking lot or on our grounds. In addition, using E-cigs, pipes and vapor products on our grounds is also prohibited.

LOST OR STOLEN PROPERTY

Secure your bags, keys and other valuables in a locker with a lock. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen property. We do keep lost and found items whenever possible. Please inquire at the Welcome Center if you are missing something.

GUEST PASS POLICY

We encourage you to introduce your friends and family to the YMCA. A guest may visit our YMCA up to three times per year at no charge. After that we invite your guest to join the YMCA as a member. Guests who choose to continue as a guest and use the YMCA more than 3 times in a calendar year may do so for a fee of $25/individual or $35/family per day.

Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian aged 18 or older upon their first visit to complete a release of liability waiver. Guests under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during each visit. Guests 16 years of age and older must provide a photo ID at check-in.

Please check for availability and schedules. Restrictions may apply. Passes may be limited during high volume times.

SEX OFFENDER POLICY

To aid the effort in our ability to provide a safe and threat-free environment, the YMCA monitors sexual offender registries. Persons on the list will not be eligible for Y membership, program participation, volunteer or employment opportunities at the YMCA of Greater Houston.

ACCIDENTS

If you have an accident, injury or incident while visiting the YMCA, contact a staff member immediately so that we can help. Our facility is equipped with AED devices and our staff team is trained in CPR, AED, and basic first aid.

HOLIDAYS AT THE Y

It is important to us that our staff teams have the opportunity to spend time with their family and friends on holidays. With that in mind, all YMCA locations follow adjusted hours for many holidays.

All facilities are closed on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Please check our website, or our social media for hours of operation on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

LOCKERS

Lockers are available for daily use during your visit to the Y. A lock is required to protect your personal items. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Locks left overnight will be removed to allow use of the locker by other members. Some Y locations offer Locker Rental as an addition to your membership. Ask the Welcome Center for details.

PROGRAM FEES & REFUNDS

Program fees are set to provide quality services and represent the cost of providing activities or services not included in your membership dues. YMCA members receive preferred rates on programs. For your convenience, online program registration is available on our website.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS

To ensure the best member experience, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel a program due to insufficient registrations, attendance, or inclement weather. Please ensure your contact information is up to date so that we may contact you in the event of program changes or facility closures. For changes to the group exercise schedule please visit our website or the YMCA of Greater Houston app. Classes are updated in real-time with cancellations and changes to instructors.

The Y is dedicated to delivering quality programs. In order for us to do so, if you have to cancel a program, you must complete a request at the Welcome Center prior to the start of the program.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Every day, the YMCA of Greater Houston offers quality, affordable programs and services designed to benefit people of all incomes and backgrounds. The Y uses contributed funds from our Annual Campaign to ensure that those unable to pay the stated amount for a membership or program can participate.

Those unable to pay the full fee may receive Financial Assistance based on their ability to pay and the Y’s ability to support. All records are kept confidential. Please visit the Welcome Center for more information.

SHARE THE Y – MEMBER REFERRAL

Through our member referral program, you can earn a month of membership dues on us each time one of your friends or family members joins the Y. Plus, every new membership helps the Y fight the systemic problems that plague Houston – making our referral program good for you and great for the community.

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO RECORDING POLICY

In an ongoing effort to maintain a safe environment for the children, adults, and families who visit our facilities, the YMCA of Greater Houston has established the following Photography/Video Recording Policy. This policy is to protect the safety and privacy of our members and guests from the possibility of having unauthorized pictures, videos or audio recordings taken of them.

Personal use of cell phones, audio, camera and video recording devices:

  • Use of the above-named devices is strictly prohibited in all locker rooms and bathrooms.
  • Audio recordings, photographs or video recordings of other members, guests, staff, vendors, or anyone other than self, are prohibited without prior knowledge or consent. *
  • Videography and photography should not be disruptive to YMCA operations or members.

YMCA staff have the right to enforce the above policy. A violation by a member, program participant or guest may result in a warning, suspension or termination of YMCA privileges.

Videography and Photography by the YMCA of Greater Houston, Y-USA and Authorized Partners:

Per the YMCA of Greater Houston general liability waiver, all YMCA members and guests may be photographed or videoed by YMCA staff while participating in Y activities or events. These photos/video will be used for the sole purpose of promoting the YMCA. This includes social media sites.

Photography and Videography by Outside Parties (including media):

The YMCA of Greater Houston is a private organization and requires advance permission for, and in some cases, limits or does not allow photography and video on YMCA property. Any individual or organization wanting to engage in photography or videography on YMCA property for broadcast or public dissemination of any type must receive advanced permission. All requests should go initially to the Executive Director, or their designee, and will be approved through the YMCA of Greater Houston Public Relations Team.

* Consent is given verbally or through implied authorization. Implied authorization is when a person is taking a picture, using an audio device or taking video of a member of their family, family friends or others from whom prior permission has been obtained while participating in a YMCA activity or event such as swim sessions, basketball games, family events, graduation ceremonies, classes and the like.

FACILITY AMENITY GUIDELINES

In order to ensure the safety of our members as well as to provide the best experience possible for each person who visits our facility, we ask that our members and guests adhere to the following guidelines:

WELLNESS CENTER:

For the safety of all youth in our YMCA facility, those ages 8-15 who are interested in utilizing strength, cardiovascular equipment or group exercise classes must follow the guidelines below:

  • Ages 8-9: Youth may utilize the cardiovascular equipment and attend dance format group exercise classes with an adult (18+) in immediate proximity.
  • Ages 10-12: Youth may use cardio equipment and pin select equipment and attend group exercise classes with an adult (18+) in immediate proximity.
  • Ages 13-15: Youth may access all fitness offerings and group exercise classes at the YMCA including free weights.

At the YMCA we strive to be a space for all to feel welcome and able to grow in spirit, mind and body.

We care about your safety, health and experience at the Y. Equipment orientations, health assessments and Personal Training are available to you. Connect with a YMCA team member to schedule today.

Workout Etiquette:

  • Please be mindful of: Language, Volume, Camera Use
  • During equipment use:
    • Share with others during sets
    • Return and rack weights when finished
    • Eat food elsewhere
    • Liquids must be in a spill proof, non-breakable container
  • Please stay safe by wearing appropriate athletic attire and footwear.
  • Only YMCA Personal Trainers are permitted to train on YMCA property.
  • Help us keep our community safe. Please wipe down your equipment after use.
  • For the safety of all participants, youth age 7 and under are not permitted in the Wellness Centers.

GYM:
  • Be considerate of yourself and others.
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please wear appropriate attire:
    • Only non-marking tennis shoes are permitted.
    • Shirts must be worn at all times.
    • Shorts must be worn at the natural waistline.
  • No food or drink in the gym; sealed plastic water bottles are allowed.
  • Program equipment and storage closets are for staff only.
  • Profanity, fighting and threats will not be tolerated.
  • No dunking or hanging on the rim allowed.

OUTDOOR FACILITIES:
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please wear appropriate attire:
    • Shoes must be worn at all times; only tennis shoes are permitted.
    • Shirts must be worn at all times.
    • Shorts must be worn at the natural waistline.
  • No rollerblading or skateboarding allowed.
  • We are a tobacco and alcohol-free facility.
  • Use of flammable materials and other open flame prohibited.
  • Profanity, fighting and threats will not be tolerated.
  • Do dunking or hanging on the rim allowed
  • Pavilion is for YMCA members. Guests must check-in at the Welcome Center prior to use.
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please wear appropriate attire:
    • Shoes must be worn at all times; only tennis shoes are permitted.
    • Shirts must be worn at all times.
    • Shorts must be worn at the natural waistline.
  • No rollerblades, skateboards or bicycles allowed.
  • No pets.
  • We are a tobacco and alcohol-free facility.
  • Courts are for YMCA members. Guests must check-in at the Welcome Center prior to use.

The Y is dedicated to providing options and fun outside of our facility. Many of our locations have fields, tracks and other outdoor amenities.

  • Outdoor amenities are owned by the YMCA and maybe utilized by members and guests during programs and classes and maybe used during operating hours when not be utilized by a program unless amenity specific hours/guidelines are posted.
  • Members and guests must check-in before utilizing the amenity.
  • Youth under age 12 must be with a parent or guardian.
  • Rollerblading and skateboards are not allowed on pavilions or courts.
  • Please contact your local Y for more information on using or renting the fields, pavilions or other outdoor amenities.

LOCKER ROOM:
  • The YMCA of Greater Houston respects the privacy of all members and we are committed to ensuring that everyone using our facilities feels comfortable and safe.
  • Please be respectful of others and practice modesty when utilizing the locker rooms.
  • Children ages 5 and under are permitted to use any locker room with adult supervision. Children ages 6 and up may use the locker room that corresponds with their gender. Changing rooms are available.
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Help us keep our community safe. If you witness any inappropriate behavior, please report it to a staff member immediately.
  • Video and camera use is prohibited.
  • Lockers are for day use only unless rented. Locks on non-rental lockers left overnight may be removed. Items may be donated.
  • The YMCA is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.
  • Locker rooms may be closed for maintenance and cleaning.

SAUNA:
  • Consult with a physician before use
  • Temperature range 160-180 degrees
  • Appropriate attire required in the sauna
  • Sandals and water shoes only; no athletic shoes allowed
  • Shower before entering the sauna
  • Children under 12 are not permitted
  • No papers or reading materials allowed
  • No food, glass or cans allowed
  • Laying down is not permitted
  • No shaving allowed
  • The use of aromatherapy or any products of this nature are strictly prohibited
  • Never pour water on any of the steaming devices
  • Please limit time in sauna to maximum of ten (10) minutes
  • Extended exposure may cause dehydration and result in nausea, dizziness or fainting

CHILD WATCH:
  • Child Watch is available for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years who have a membership type that includes Child Watch or have added the amenity to their membership.
    • Please check your child in and out upon each visit.
    • You will need to remain on the Y premises while your child is checked in to the Child Watch area.
    • Child Watch is available for up to 2 hours per day and a maximum of 12 hours per week.
    • Please refrain from bringing in food, personal toys, electronics, car seats and strollers.

AQUATIC FACILITIES:
  • No running, profanity or horseplay
  • Underwater distance swimming and breath holding over 10 seconds is not permitted
  • No inflatable swim aids
  • No gum, candy, glass, smoking or alcohol
  • Bathing suits must be worn in the pool
  • No diving in water less than 9 feet deep
  • Shower before pool entry
  • Swim diapers with plastic bottoms over them are required. No diaper changing on pool deck.
  • Snorkels and/or face or nose covering goggles are only permitted when lap swimming for those 16+
  • Individuals using the slide must follow usage guidelines, meet manufacturer’s height requirements and pass a swim test
  • In summer months a 10-minute safety break is required each hour for recreational swimmers under age 16

  • UNDER AGE 6: Must be within arms distance of a parent or caregiver* AND wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket.

  • AGE 6-11: Supervised by parent or caregiver* who is on pool deck at all times. Must pass a swim test OR wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket and be within arms reach of a parent or caregiver*.

  • AGE 12-15: Must pass swim test OR wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket OR be within arms reach of a parent or caregiver*.

* Age 18+

The pool will close for any of the following reasons:

  • Visible lightning or audible thunder
  • Power outage
  • Water contamination
  • Imbalanced chemicals
  • Poor pool visibility
  • Air temperature below 45 degrees*
  • Staff training or audit
  • Water temperature at or below 70 degrees

* Outdoor pool only

  • Must be 48″ tall and must pass the swim test
  • Form line on pool deck, not on stairway
  • No tubes, mats, goggles or life jackets permitted in slide
  • Only one rider at a time. No doubles, trains or chains.
  • Enter slide in sitting position
  • Ride feet first
  • Keep arms and feet inside slide at all times
  • No running, standing, stopping, kneeling or tumbling in slide
  • No diving from slide
  • Exit splashdown area immediately
  • Swimsuits required in spa.
  • Shower before entering the spa.
  • Children under the age of 12 not permitted in spa.
  • Pregnant or elderly persons should consult with their physician before entering the spa.
  • No food, glass or cans allowed in the spa area.
  • No soap, shampoo or shaving in the spa area.
  • Please limit time in spa to maximum of ten (10) minutes.
  • No swimming, horseplay or exercise while using the spa.
