Adaptive sports programs at the Y give children and adults with disabilities a chance to play sports. They can also join learning activities in a safe and fun environment. The Y, in partnership with The Miracle League, provides a chance to experience the joys and benefits that come from playing baseball.

How Games are Played

YMCA Adaptive Sports provides players, regardless of their ability, the opportunity to play sports. Each player dresses in an official sports uniform, and plays the game just like their peers with the help of a buddy. The game focuses on the ability level of each player. Our facilities feature no barriers and players enjoy games on a synthetic surface or wood flooring for easy mobility.

Adaptive sports and recreation opportunities include:

  • Recreational Minors (ages 4-9): Perfect for our younger athletes eager to discover their potential and develop foundational skills in a nurturing environment.
  • Recreational Majors (ages 10+): For those looking to enjoy the joy of sports in a relaxed, fun, and social setting. This age group is all about focusing on the love of the game and community spirit.
  • Competitive (ages 12+): Designed for athletes ready to take their game to the next level, focusing on advanced skills, strategy, and competitive play.

Since the launch of our adaptive sports programs in 2012, we have been proud to provide these opportunities at no cost to participants, thanks to the generosity of our donors. However, due to the rising costs of operating these programs, it has become necessary to make a change.

Beginning January 2025, we will be introducing a fee of $25 per program for our adaptive sports programs. This was not an easy decision, as we deeply value the inclusivity and accessibility of these programs. However, this change is essential to ensure we can continue offering high-quality programming, make improvements to your experience and invest in our offerings and staff.

Adaptive Sports Clinics

Adaptive programs give children and adults with disabilities the chance to play sports. They also offer learning opportunities in a safe and fun environment.

Y-trained staff will lead players in drills and games designed to challenge and develop gross motor skills all while having fun with friends!

Be a Buddy

Miracle League Buddies work with an athlete during the game to ensure they are safe and have the best game experience, regardless of any developmental disabilities! Volunteer for one day with our adaptive programs or multiple games.
