After School Care Parent Corner

The Y has always been a safe, nurturing place for kids of all ages to be active, confident and healthy. But the YMCA’s work improving lives doesn’t end there. Our our out of school time programs provide a path with a purpose. Kids have the opportunity to learn and thrive outside of the classroom with a unique support system designed to help them grow stronger in school, on the playing field and in live. Our balanced program supports academic achievement, fosters health and wellness and instills positive social-emotional skills. It also provides lessons in empathy, inclusion and service learning.

Why Parents Love the Y

“The program has been a great experience for my child. He is always happy when I arrive to pick him up and excited to tell him about what he did and learned at After School. This keeps my husband and I happy to not have to worry about how he is or how he’s doing while we finish up our work days. The cost is also very affordable for us.”

Why Kids Love the Y

“I see nothing but smiles every time I walk in. My daughter has been to many different day cares, and the Y has the ONLY after school program that she actually loves going to. The teachers are great with the kids and are always playing games with the children. My daughter is finally at a place where she is happy and enjoys going. Thank you Y teachers!”

Child Safety

Our programs are licensed by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services childcare licensing regulations. These regulations are designed to reduce the risk of harm to children while they are in before and after school care.

During unannounced visits, DFPS personnel ensure that all Y programs adhere to childcare minimum standards.

Billing Policies and Procedures

For policy and payment information and answers to a wide-range of frequently asked questions, please review our parent handbook.

The YMCA of Greater Houston has balanced billing. Monthly fees are based on your individual school district calendar year. A school calendar with three or more weeks in August results in a prorated fee. Two weeks or less in August results in zero fee. If school is in session the month of June, the fee is prorated. All early dismissal days and in-service days are included in the monthly fee. Holiday camps and school holidays may require an additional fee.

Payments are due prior to the first of each month. To ensure a spot and to avoid late fees, it is recommended that you schedule payments with an auto-draft. Your payment will be drafted from your account on the 1st of each month. (Check with your YMCA for additional drafting options such as weekly and daily drop in rates). Drafting is available through a credit card or EFT. Payment may also be made in-person at the Y prior to the first of each month. Space is limited so your spot is not guaranteed until your payment is scheduled or paid in full. Cash, check, credit card, money order or cashier’s checks are accepted as forms of payment. No payments will be collected at the school site.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of program cancellations due to inclement weather or facility issues that prohibit children from attending school, the YMCA recognizes three days of care as a full week of service. Based on this balance billing, accounts will be credited for a maximum of 3 days in any full week of cancellations.

Program Withdrawal

When withdrawing from the program or putting your draft for the after school program on hold, written notice must be turned in to the Y, and must be provided at least two weeks prior to your draft date. No refunds will be issued to anyone withdrawing after the first day of the month. All membership fees are non-refundable.
