Getting Ready for a Healthy, Safe and FUN Summer!

Summertime means longer days, beach vacations, summer camp, swimming pools and kids out of school. Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle in every season. The hotter summer weather can make it difficult to exercise outdoors and get the whole family involved.

Join the YMCA of Greater Houston as we discuss ways to keep your summer HEALTHY, SAFE and FUN! In this webinar Mell Llanca, Regional Healthy Living Director of the Katy Area, will discuss safe summer activities that are suitable for the entire family! You will also get information on family water safety from Armando Canelon, Youth Development Director of Aquatics of the Trotter Family YMCA.  You’ll walk away with new found healthy advice on how you can avoid unnecessary risks this summer while still having fun and staying healthy!

Mindfulness Strategies to Reduce Parenting Stress

As the end of summer nears and parents get their kids ready to go back to school, it can be an especially busy and stressful time. You may be squeezing in a last-minute vacation, going from store to store for school clothes and supplies, or sending a young child to school for the first time, or a teenager off to college. Plus, let’s face it, parenting can be hard any time of year, even when you’re not in back- to-school mode.

In this workshop, parents will learn mindfulness strategies to help reduce stress and anxiety, boost well-being, and better manage the strong emotions that come along with being a parent. You’ll even try a short mindfulness meditation. This workshop will be led by Wendy Saunders, a certified teacher in Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT)® through Emory University.

YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge

Are your employees ready for an EXCITING team challenge?
The YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge is an event designed to build community spirit among corporations, civic groups and community organizations. The activities are designed to bring individuals together to achieve a single goal – TO HAVE FUN! They achieve this by becoming a team and working together as a synchronized unit. It’s much more than “beating the other team.” It’s the camaraderie, visiting and playing with old friends, meeting new friends, working hard and feeling good about it. At the YMCA, Everybody Plays & Everybody Wins!

Rowing for a CAUSE Proceeds Benefit: The event benefits the YMCA Better Us Campaign which ensures that everyone has equal access to the resources and tools they need to learn, grow and thrive. The Y is committed to nurturing the potential of ALL kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. With the dollars raised, the Y is able serve at risk youth, teens, families and seniors with very limited financial resources, by inviting these individuals to participate in Y program and activities at minimal or no charge. These programs include After School Enrichment, Summer Day Camp, Teen Camp, Teen Leadership, Swim Lessons, Youth Sports and much more.
