Anticipated opening will provide accessibility to programs and services that best serve the Alvin community and deepen impact

HOUSTON (Aug. 10, 2021) – The YMCA of Greater Houston is thrilled to announce Thelma Ley Anderson Family YMCA (TLA) will welcome back members and the community Monday, Aug. 23. The highly anticipated opening is the result of 9 months of partnership discussions, a community needs assessment and the development of an innovative and affordable membership model that will provide greater accessibility to programs and services while creating a larger impact in Alvin.

“We have been committed to the Alvin community since we opened the doors to TLA in 2007. We have identified innovative programs and solutions that get people back to connecting in a safe environment,” said Stephen Ives, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston. “We appreciate the community’s patience as we reimagine Thelma Ley Family YMCA for future growth and greater impact. We are looking forward to opening the doors to familiar and new faces Aug. 23 as we embark on TLA’s next phase.”

The YMCA of Greater Houston will announce partnerships, programs, services, hours and a more accessible membership model over the next few weeks. The new membership model will be available starting August 16 and features a complimentary Impact Membership for all Alvin residents through the end of the year with affordable and personalized program and amenity add-on options available. The Y will be continually seeking opportunities in the Alvin area that align with the YMCA of Greater Houston’s commitment to empower youth, build healthier families and create connected and inclusive communities.
