YMCA of Greater Houston Partners with Rice Athletics for Unique Partnership
January 18, 2022 – The YMCA of Greater Houston is excited to announce that the organization has teamed up with Rice Athletics for a unique partnership designed to provide opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.
Rice Athletics will serve as a partner for the YMCA’s Miracle League baseball program. Miracle League, one of a variety of adaptive sports programs available at the YMCA, provides children and adults with disabilities the chance to play baseball in a safe, fun atmosphere. YMCA Adaptive Sports provide players, regardless of their ability, the opportunity to play. Athletes play the game with the help of a buddy and play is geared to the ability level of each player.
“We are honored to partner with the Miracle League, YMCA and their adaptive sports programs,” said Tanner Gardner, Chief Operating Office of Rice Athletics. “The opportunity to host children with disabilities for both a Rice Baseball game and Miracle League Baseball game at Reckling Park fits perfectly with our focus on serving the Houston community, and we look forward to providing life-changing experiences for the young, aspiring athletes.”
Rice Athletics will be hosting Miracle League athletes and their families for a special adaptive night at Reckling Park in May 2022. Rice Athletics season ticket owners have the opportunity to donate money/tickets to sponsor an athlete and their family at the game.
“This partnership provides a great opportunity to bring awareness to our adaptive sports programs as well as an opportunity for our athletes and families to connect with a collegiate baseball program,” said Meridith Silcox, Association Director or Access, Ability & Inclusion for the YMCA of Greater Houston. “We are excited to begin this partnership and look forward to working together to make a difference in the lives of our athletes.”
