If you’d like to get off camp and experience the local area, we have a few recommendations for you!
The Sam Houston Wine Trail: There are local stops on the Sam Houston Wine Trail near camp. Froggie Wines is just 16 miles away. Teysha’s Vineyard is 32 miles away, and Tempe Creek Vineyard in 35 miles away.
The Sam Houston Statue: You may have passed it on the way to camp, but this huge statue is even more impressive close up, and has a lovely visitor center to walk around. It is located about 25 minutes from camp towards Hunstville, TX.
You may also enjoy the Sam Houston Museumand Cultural Center in Huntsville 25 miles away.
The Blue Lagoon in Hunstville, TX, 25 miles away, is a wonderful natural beauty spot, but does require advance booking, so please call them before making the trip.
If camp doesn’t have enough walking trails for you, then Sam Houston State Park is 25 miles West, and Davy Crockett National Forest is 25 miles North East.

HOLIDAY HOURS: All YMCA of Greater Houston locations will follow adjusted schedules on Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. Locations will open at their regularly scheduled time and close at 6 pm (exceptions: Alief, Houston Texans and M.D. Anderson YMCA's will be open 8 am - 2 pm).
